Black Mountain and The Black Angels join forces to create ultimate fall psych-rock tour

Black Mountain and The Black Angels are teaming up to create fall’s Dropout Boogie tour, the ultimate fall psych-rock tour that features bands with the word “Black” in their names. (Hey, “Wolf” and “Crystal” bands, maybe you can put a name-themed co-headlining tour together in the spring or something. Don’t rest on your crystal wolf laurels.) Black Mountain’s new album on Jagjaguwar, Wilderness Heart, comes out September 14, while The Black Angels’ new album on Blue Horizon, Phosphene Dream, ALSO comes out on September 14! They are, like, musical soul twins or something. WOW. Listen to “Bad Vibrations” from the latter album at the Chocolate Grinder.
As previously reported, Black Mountain will be spending the late summer/early fall months gallivanting through Europe, with select pre-Dropout Boogie tour stops in Los Angeles and New York.

Noveller tours through space, time, and Canada

Ever tire of the limitations of experiencing a whirlwind of droning electronics and looped, equally droning inter-spliced guitar picking from the confines of your bedroom, living room, or even car for that matter? Sure you do. You and I both know the obvious perks to seeing something like this on the stage, at least in the case of Brooklyn-based musician Sarah Lipstate, a.k.a. Noveller. At the very least, her shows will incorporate something like this. So that’s why she’s doing you and I a favor by taking her star-swept epics to the road during the months of August and September, with a little in November too. Much of the tour will be alongside unFact, which is Jesus Lizard David Sim’s solo project, and will also include (!!!) performances with big-man-around-town Fennesz at the Decibel Fest in Seattle and at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA (the latter also featuring another TMT favorite Burning Star Core).
Last month, Noveller released Desert Fires via her very own Saffron label. It has since melted countless brains and will continue to do so exponentially with its vinyl release through No Fun Productions later this year. Meanwhile, her much-anticipated-by-TMT collaboration with Carla Bozulich (Evangelista) is set for release later this year on Not Not Fun, while her album for Important will likely materialize next year, according to Lipstate.

Tyondai Braxton leaves Battles in one of those “sad but amicable” sort of ways

A life on the road can be a rough way to earn your daily duckets. And you don’t need to be an old-school, pavement-pounding vet like some Allman or Doobie brother to tire of the endless parade of ratty motels and rattier food; it even happens to the mathiest of music’s ranks, too. Case in point, poor Tyondai Braxton, who has decided to split from Battles after tiring of the travel grind. From an announcement on the band’s website:
Due to Battles’ ambitions of finishing their second studio album followed by commitments to a full touring schedule in 2011, and Tyondai’s own commitments as a solo artist and his desire not to tour, both Battles and Tyondai have decided to move on without each other.
Sad news indeed, but at least both parties will continue to make music, albeit as separate entities. However, there’s still no release date on that proposed 2010 Battles album yet. In fact, there’s no Battles tourdate schedule available at this time either. So come on guys, throw your old boys in the indie music blogosphere some good juju after this most deflating of announcements, please.

Fat Worm of Error release an LP, a CD, a 7-inch, and tour like they’ve presumably never toured before

Fat Worm of Error, a.k.a. the best band in the whole fucking world, are making some noise this year. Literally! Kinda! Sorta! Hot on the heels of us placing their 2006 release, Pregnant Babies Pregnant with Pregnant Babies, at #90 on our Favorite 100 Albums of 2000-2009, Fat Worm of Error are releasing THREE NEW ALBUMS. The first is an LP entitled Broods released this month on Ecstatic Peace!/Open Mouth, followed soon after — on September 11, to be exact — with a CD called Ambivalence & the Beaker via Resipiscent. The last? Well, you gotta get it on tour, TMT reader: it’s a self-released cassette release called, Music for 17 Arthur Ganson Machines, and it should be great.

Clinic tour North America this fall… now with dulcimers

This fall, Clinic are leaving the shores of Liverpool behind to venture once more to North America. The organ-loving (the musical instrument, not, like… your heart or your liver or whatever) four-piece is swinging through New York and New Jersey for a bit of a teaser this August, before returning in November to make their way from sea to Canada to shining sea. The band will be repping their latest album, Bubblegum, which is set for an October 5 release on Domino, arriving about two years after their last album, Do It! (TMT Review). Produced by John Congleton (Bill Callahan, St. Vincent), Bubblegum promises “dulcimers, strings, and tack piano.” Ooh, dulcimers! Hopefully they are being played by little woodland creatures and Joanna Newsom-sounding tiny Appalachian ladies.
