♫♪  Chocolate Grinder Mix 57 - Road Games

Tomorrow’s September 1st, people. We have made it through August. And it’s still hot as fuck, and that pisses me off, but at least it’s September. And it’s the end of a long-ass work week, the start of a three-day weekend — how could anyone be upset about that? It is impossible to be upset about that, that is the answer. If this mix has a theme at all, I think it’d be something like “pre-fall music for not being upset,” although I’m not entirely sure that works across the board. For the long weekend, I imagine many folks are packing up the Subaru and planning to GTF outta town (like I am), so maybe load this one up to the ol’ music playback device before you leave, yeah?

The mix came together a little strange — lots of different styles, from rock to pop to jazz to dance to hypnagogic-whatever — but it came together nonetheless. It flows, but perhaps not always in the direction you’d think. Flow with it anyway, folks, because this one’s got some of my absolute favorite jams of the year in it, stuff that I’ve been meaning to share for a long, long time. Heavy Midgets came to me all the way back in January and has found heavy rotation since then. Chris Weisman’s entry here is from his recent Feeding Tube reissue. There’s even a new one from Chicago Underground Duo, highlighting the insane Bill Higgins-meets-Tony Williams drumming of my hero Chad Taylor. You’ll like it. Promise. It’s me, Strauss. Trust.
