Atlantic Thrills
Bed Bugs [7-inch; Almost Ready]

Atlantic Thrills = a great band, and it’s only a matter of time before a Black Lips-esque cult forms around them like an igloo of support. Until then, yet another earnest punk platter is on offer: “Bed Bugs” b/w “Sugar Sugar.” They’re even tighter and catchier this time around (though I dug that self-titled record harddd) on the A-side. Then for Side B they flip the script and go acoustic on us. Risky, randy, rough-hewn, revolutionary? Hardly, but it’s good fun, another side of the band to accept, keeping in mind that you probably prefer it when they kick ass. And soooooo back to “Bed Bugs”: This is what I came to the show for. Atlantic Thrills know their way around a proper chorus, and that always seems to be where they snag you like a fish hook to the pinkie toe (youch; that happened to me on an Idaho river once, “Get it out Dad, shit!” That sounds weird…). I think I mentioned partners in garage-punk crime The Ghetto Ghouls before, but there’s also an aspect of Cool Ghouls (a more soulful sect) there, apparent in the addictive songcraft and driving riffs. Well, I guess this is gonna be a short ‘n’ sweet one, eh? ONE-TWO PUNCH, and I’m out; don’t let the “Bed Bugs” bite!
