“Cheese is a fruit,” explains Virginia Beach’s NOLANBEROLLIN on the hook for “STEALIN SWAG.” A quick google search on my end sadly suggests that NOLANBEROLLIN is, at least on a surface level, mistaken, but then again, the linked webpage is from 2008. Things can change. Language creates our reality, after all, and we’re living in a post-truth world. So maybe this head-scratching line isn’t so absurd after all—just a truth hitherto unknown to us.
I suppose this particular track fits into the category of “mumble rap,” but that’s kind of a tired phrase at this point imo. In the post-Lil B era (almost post-Lil B? Where is Black Ken?????), nonsensical rhymes and lazy flows come in a variety of packages, and it’s increasingly difficult to fit them all under one umbrella. Be that as it may, the track has an undeniable laziness to it that, between NOLANBEROLLIN’s flow and the eerie beat, really leaves you in a trance. Stream below.
