♫♪  Edmondson - “Escalation”

It would be appropriate to write about the redundancy of everyday life. Modern monotony. “Phones are turning us into zombies.” I can’t do it today. There’s nothing that I, nor anyone, can say that would shatter the structure of our daily routines. Even after the greatest revolutions do the citizens ask themselves, “Why am I still watching television after midnight?”

You know it’s tough sometimes. Work gets old. Writing wears us down. Silence starts to sound better than music. Dinner tastes like shit. And that old mailman who everyone in the neighborhood loves is bound to retire any day now. Really, it’s the gentle nudge of moments of awareness which fill our lungs that get us through how boring this can be. They’re never enough to last us forever though.

It would be appropriate to write about Edmondson, their background, how this is their debut album, the clever combination of what sounds like elevator music and indie-film music placed over smudgy animation. I can’t do it today. There’s nothing that Edmondson, nor anyone, can say that would shatter the structure of our daily routines. “Escalation” hurts a little. It acts as the catalyst for a moment of awareness that helps to contextualize something, even if it’s something as unimportant as your day. Maybe it’s not enough to last forever.

It would be appropriate to write about how you should watch this video and listen to this music, so I’m going to. Here’s to Edmondson, with this release off of their debut album, Strange Duration on the Elestial Sound. Thanks for helping us gaze through the cracks for a minute.
