♫♪  Over - “Gone Are The Days”

Are you starting to get a little sick of guitars that “rock,” band names that “rhyme,” and music that isn’t simple enough to describe to your friends and parents as simply “electro-shoegaze?” Dude, me too. like, my senses are getting sick and tired of sensing so much sensory bullshit all the time.

And apparently, Dan Workman and Brett Paulin of famed Toronto post-punk/drone outfit Ten Kens were a little burnt out on that stuff too. Because lo and behold; they have overhauled some of those more… emphatic Ten Kens tendencies and today are unveiling the first single from their new project, Over.

It’s called “Gone Are The Days”, and I promise you that it’s totally “electro-shoegaze” CITY, trading all those pesky things like “chords” and “immediacy” for something much denser, spookier, swirlier, and psychedelic. Boom. Yeah, there’s synth pads, drum machines, odd bits of field recording floating around, and plenty of delay and reverb to fog everything up just enough so you don’t know what’s-what. And I don’t know about you, but I totally HATE knowing what’s-what. So this first grainy glimpse at the duo’s new aesthetic is perfect for what’s ailing me right now.
