♫♪  Radar Cult - “Fog”

cultzzz

Want to know what’s been tilting my tin foil hat these days? It’s coming across the airwaves like a environmental conspiracy theorist’s worst nightmare: sonic chemtrails of subconscious manipulation, potentially originating from the High Altitude Sonic Haranguer, Signals Copyrighted Unless Mentioned (H.A.S.H S.C.U.M). Who knows? I’m purely speculating as to whether or not this remote radar broadcasting unit is located at (62.433333, 129.733383) — a location chosen very purposefully following the examination of another location-based code, (53.332112, -6.24385). Regardless of where this machine is being operated from, the H.A.S.H S.C.U.M unit might not necessarily be the one currently flooding our minds with dopamines, antihistamines, and the emotional means to grapple with this new video that has settled into our little corner of the internet by the coincidentally named Radar Cult. Coincidence? I think, therefore probably not. The proof is in the lyrics:

It’s the perfect lie/ you tell yourself…

“Fog,” the video in question, has been mass-circulated as an arm of the Cult’s Memory Sweep EP initiative (further evidence). It places the subject amongst familiar images twisted into an unsettling, perilous haar. The music itself sounds familiar, as if Radar Cult has been with us all along, addressing our anxieties in the form of a warm falsetto battling broken beats and dusty synth loops. At any moment this familiarity could take advantage of us, turning the videos quiet, lonely roads and shores into scenes of potential horror.

So who is being lied to? Was I brainwashed into sharing this video with you, ensuring the perpetuation of melancholy vibes, sledgehammer piano hands, and ambiguous subject matter throughout the Soc Net (like social network, but more exclusive. Congrats, you’ve made it)? Am I telling you all this information as a double-agent trying to sabotage my own mission? Proceed with caution to your nearest IP address and access Radar Cult’s Bandcamp, where you can listen to their entire EP, condensed into a twenty-second morsel that saves valuable computer memory and human memory. Just kidding. It’s worth it, I think, therefore you can trust me.
