♫♪  Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - “Pale Flower”

The thirteenth moon of a year, a phenomenon that will occur in 2015, is called a blue moon. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma is set to release a new record, a phenomenon that will occur on February 15, called A Year With 13 Moons. The record, which is apparently a R.W. Fassbinder reference in addition to a celebration of the fresh new year, was recorded while Cantu-Ledesma attended an artist-in-residence program at Headlands Center for the Arts in the Bay Area. A Year With 13 Moons is a rare example of a veteran experimental artist who is eager to create new sound and actually experiment with music. Emanating an overall more pop-structured feel with lo-fi catchy guitar hooks and hypnotizing drum loops, 13 Moons remains full of dark, expansive, and occasionally abrasive layers of modular synthesizer and field recordings. “Pale Flower” represents the more sunny side of 13 Moons featuring dreamy guitars, a tranquil sighing bassline, and shining high pitch sine waves. The video above accompanies the first single of the full-length LP, featuring minimal animations atop the album cover painting, providing a zoomed-in look (and listen) at the forthcoming electronic expedition The Year With 13 Moons.
