The album’s production and musical cohesiveness have been objectively improved from his prior work, and Flower Boy is packed with introspection and a fragility previously unimaginable. Thank you for finally letting us in, Tyler! Thank you!

Hmm. Maybe he’ll soon be able to say the same to the countries that not-so-quietly saw it fit to prevent his entry?

Well…until that time comes (or doesn’t), fans local to the United States will be able to enjoy (or decry) an upcoming winter tour that’s set to begin at the end of January 2018. Those first few snowflakes are nice at first (the beauty of mother nature, blah, blah, blah), but it turns into nasty slush pretty damn quickly. The options: 1) spend months trudging through a frigid metropolis; skin dry, nose runny, jeans ruined, or 2) rack up the Uber bills. It’d be great if there was an escape hatch to a place flowing with strong caipirinhas and sweet, mellifluous electronic music vibes keeping winter’s brutality at bay.

Don’t despair! That place exists, electronic fiends. In March — a month where spring says “I’m here jk lol” for most North Americans and Europeans — Dekmantel returns with its second, sunny São Paulo edition. Aside from the array of eclectic musicians, the two-day fest raises the bar with its unique venue: the abandoned Playcenter amusement park located in the middle of the city. (Easily accessible via trains!)

That’s right: on March 3-4, 2018, dozens of of finest names in electronica — including chillwave mastermind Four Tet, brain rinsers Modeselektor, DJ stalwart Nina Kraviz, Detroit techno veterans Marcel Dettmann and Palms Trax, and the electrofunk grooves of Floating Points — will basically set up shop amid the ruins of Jurassic Park! Also joining the cabal is a host of local Brazilian acts to expand your musical horizons — including Marcos Valle, a Brazilian pop institution with almost five decades in the game.

Head here for tickets and more details, and keep scrolling for a list of confirmed acts and a few shots of the incredibly spooky, Scooby Doo-esque location. (Many flights from the northern part of the world are under a grand – just sayin’ for all the jetsetters out there. And it goes without saying: you’ll return home with a rad tan. Até já!)

Dekmantel Festival São Paulo 2018 confirmed acts:

Four Tet, Modeselektor, Nina Kraviz, Marcel Dettmann, Floating Points, Mano Le Tough, Marcos Valle, Azymuth & DJ Nuts, Os Mulheras Negras, Midland, Palms Trax, Mall Grab, Antal, Young Marco, DJ Stingray, Danny Daze, Peggy Gou, Vladimir Ivkovic, Lena Willikens, Maria Rita Stumpf, Randomer, Anthony Parasole, Kobosil, Jayda G, Courtesy, Dekmantel Soundsystem, Bufiman, Elena Colombi, Interstellar Funk, Selvagem, Davis, Zopelar, Tessuto, Tako, Izabel, John Gomez, Cashu, Carrot Green, Marcio Vermelho, Tata Ogan, Tahira, Kinkid, Barbara Boeing, Leeon & Mansvr, Caio T, Gui Scott, Nascii, TYV

A few photos of the Playcenter location:

Floating Points Four Tet Marcel Dettmann Marcos Valle Modeselektor Nina Kraviz Palms Trax Dekmantel Mon, 20 Nov 2017 17:17:04 +0000 Tristan Kneschke 160152 at https://www.tinymixtapes.com G Perico fucks up your year-end list by announcing 2 The Left, out next month; makes up for it a little by sharing new video for “Affiliated” 2017-11-20T10:46:58-05:00 https://www.tinymixtapes.com/news/g-perico-announces-new-album-2-tha-left-and-shares-new-video-affiliated?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=tmt Music
“South Central’s gangsta rap revivalist G Perico has had one hell of a 2017. November 20: a.k.a. the day that Scherk drops his new masterwork of experimental ambient doodles and sampled sketches, a bubbling hot spring of electronic sound art that’s chock full of gentle melodies which burst as they reach the surface.

Released via London cassette label videogamemusic, Modelled’s textures and samples intermingle with and repeat themselves, creating patterns which can then be “molded,” “shaped,” “sculpted,” “developed,” and other-synonyms-for-“modelled” (that L!) by the mind to exhort maximum engagement. Well…I guess some machines do talk: HAL 9000 apologizes to you when it cannot do something, the T-800 lets you know that it will be back, and my iPhone tells me, “Okay Jeremy, here is what I found for ‘Could Kristaps Porzingis block God’s shot?’” Even musical instruments can talk to you — in as much as the noise that results from plucking a string or pressing a key can be considered talking. But…what happens when you WANT a musical instrument to talk to you, only it’s been dead and non-operational for twenty years? This is what C. Spencer Yeh explores on his new album The RCA Mark II.

The album’s namesake, the first-ever programmable synthesizer, was built and installed at Columbia University in New York City in 1959. It enjoyed an illustrious career, before becoming non-operational in 1997. Upon discovering the synthesizer while visiting a friend at Columbia, Yeh began experimenting with the machine acoustically: flipping switches, turning knobs, plugging and unplugging cables, and rubbing its surfaces (you know: like you do). Several sessions of recording these operations became the basis on which this album is built. The result: 12 tracks of the defunct machine’s clanking parts that are jagged, sparse, and strangely rhythmic. Despite being stripped of all its original, intended functions, Yeh has still found a way to make the RCA Mark II speak.

Listen to “Track V” off of The RCA Mark II down below, and order the album itself here. The RCA Mark II is out right now on Primary Information.

The RCA Mark II tracklisting:

01. Entitled 50 Backwoods, the record is out December 8 on Fool’s Gold! (Extremely Street Fighter voice:) PERFECT!

The record is being framed as “an experimental merger of hip-hop and old school electronic” which combines the twin sensibilities of Earl and Hook in a forward-thinking gumbo of all your favorite retro flavors (aaaaaaaand now you’re hungry). The album took a week to record in Brooklyn, because you know that old cliché about New York: “it’s the city that never takes longer than a week to record an album in.” It also sports features from Jacks, Wiki, and Melo-X.

If you need more evidence those musty, old school sounds are back in style, I submit to you Exhibit B: the 50 Backwoods tour! Check out all the dates below so you can embarrass yourself trying out all those pro footwork moves you found off YouTube in a venue-with-an-evocative-one-to-two-word-name near you! Listen to steaming slices of Earl and Nick’s independent work down below (sorry, now you’re hungry again!), and don’t forget to read the full 50 Backwoods tracklist below, as well, because what else could you possibly have going on between now and early next month??

50 Backwoods tracklisting:

01. That album, Resurgam, was in-turn shepherded by storied producer Flood, who laid some of his trademarked hi-def knob twisting upon it.

But hey guess what folks? Even Flood needs a vacation sometimes! So when he took a few days off to go to the Glastonbury Festival, Fink and the gang said, “You know what? We’ve still got all these instruments.” Thus, the Resurgam Acoustic Sessions EP was born, featuring three album tracks redone by the band in a husky all-wooden style, plus a brand new song, “Divide,” which TMT is pleased as Flood-on-vacation to be premiering for you today down below. Take a load off and enjoy!

In other great news: Resurgam Acoustic Session is available from R’COUP’D/Ninja Tune RIGHT NOW. Well, hopefully fans of the proud Detroit native aren’t STILL sitting in front of their computers in anticipation, because I’m not sure about the exact biological process, but I’m almost positive that, after spending so much time in a stationary, seated position, dense spiderwebs (full of spiders) start forming around your internal organs.

That documentary never appeared, and there’s a chance that it will never appear, according to the official Twitter detailing from Danny Brown himself. As you can see below, last week, he stated pretty plainly documentary is just straight-up “not coming out,” and that it was essentially shelved for reasons that have yet to be fully explained by anybody. The whole thing’s kind of weird, considering the fact that the doc actually received a limited premiere last year at a theater in New York.

We’ll forgo the speculation here at TMT, but it definitely sucks for Danny as well as the folks (like Director Andrew Cohn) who put in the effort behind the scenes to make sure Brown’s interesting story and personality were showcased in a memorable way. Ah well. So it goes. Time to boycott Apple, if you want.
