In May, you can finally (maybe) start going outside without a jacket again, baseball season really gets going, and those Justin Timberlake memes that never get old start showing up all over our social media feeds. Yes, there’s just something special about May and the warmth it brings into our lives.

That’s why it feels so right that Dent May — inthe month of May — has announced that his new album is coming out in… August…wait what? Feels like there was a pretty cohesive “May” theme going on in these first two paragraphs that just got straight-up obliterated! Like, it really seemed we were headed in a “Hey, it’s May, here’s the new Dent May album coming out in May, it’s a concept album about May that talks up all the great things about May,” direction, but…

Well at any rate, yes, the latest from Dent May, entitled Across The Multiverse, is due for release on August 18 via Carpark Records.

It’s rather fitting that Dent May fancies himself the combination of a “hotel bar lounge singer and aspiring daytime TV talk show host,” because the songs on Across The Multiverse really do sound like they’d be at home in either a hotel bar lounge or on a daytime TV talk show. Or a discotheque, really. Ooh, or a roller rink! If Across The Multiverse doesn’t single-handedly revive America’s collective interest in roller rink culture, I don’t know what will.

Seriously. Take a listen to the album’s title track (featuring Frankie Cosmos) below, and tell me honestly that you can’t see yourself busting some sweet, highly advanced, roller skate-based dance moves to it. Danish electronic label Posh Isolation is set to put out their 200th release soon! And fittingly enough, it comes in the form of the fourth LP from Damien Dubrovnik. Comprised of label founders Loke Rahbek (a.k.a. Croatian Amor) and Christian Stadsgaard, the duo were also the very first act to release a record on the now eight-year old label. “Without Damien Dubrovnik there would most likely have been no Posh Isolation, and vice versa.” Awww. <3

Titled Great Many Arrows, the album will be out on June 30. The project’s first since 2015, it trades in some of their noisy industrial vistas for gentle touches of “organs, cellos, violas, wind and other acoustic instruments,” and sets them against a thick synthesized background. According to the label, “The strength of the recording lies here in the interaction between the melodic, acoustic instrumentation and the bulldozing electronics.”

The first cut of the album, six-minute-long “Arrow 5,” was released alongside the announcement. Listen below, pre-order the album here, and then check out the cover art and the rather self-explanatory LP tracklist.

Great Many Arrows tracklisting:

01. Long Beach rapper and bane of upper-middle-class Christian moms everywhere Vince Staples has finally dropped some of the details regarding his new album and shared a new song.

The album is called Big Fish Theory, and it’s out June 23 via Def Jam/ARTium. As you can see above, its accompanying artwork features what is ostensibly a normal-sized fish in a very small bowl. This is called “symbolism.”

And while I would ordinarily just assume that something called Big Fish Theory is some weird, off-brand cross-promotion between The Big Bang Theory and the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Staples’ record is actually the hotly anticipated follow-up to the previously hotly anticipated Prima Donna EP from last year, which followed 2015’s hotly acclaimed LP Summertime ‘06. Vince previously embarked on a worldwide voyage he appropriately called The Life Aquatic Tour—because he really hates mixing metaphors—but he still has plenty of festival dates lined-up through summertime ‘17.

While no official tracklisting has “surfaced,” the rapper just premiered the music video for a new track from the album called “Big Fish,” which features open ocean, a shipwreck, and sharks (godDAMN, his theming is on-point). And, similar to the way that the band awesomely brought in former member Jarboe as a righteous homage to/celebration of the latest Swans incarnation, the three final shows — which are all taking place at Brooklyn’s Warsaw venue — will also feature three purposefully chosen guest musicians. The lovingly abrasive cellist Okkyung Lee will also be reviving her support role for the August shows, while Baby Dee will rejoin shortly thereafter.

Those three final guests, though? Well, those would be Carla Bozulich on November 2, Swedish singer/songwriter Anna Von Hausswolff on November 3, and the somewhat contrasting ADULT. on November 4.

Also worth noting is the 2xCD live album Deliquescence, which was released just a few days ago as a tangible recollection of these final tour dates. Instead, for the relaunch of Twin Peaks, we were treated to new characters, new locations, horrifying mutilation, and a whole lot of The Red Room. It was incredibly dark. It was unnervingly quiet. It was the Lynch known to anyone who has followed his trajectory since Twin Peaks originally aired in the 1990s, the Lynch whose four key episodes from a 22-episode season two were captivating enough to make fans overlook the otherwise flailing, misguided series.

Despite its bold use of silence, Twin Peaks: The Return is already centering its televisual landscape around its music. The former will feature Angelo Badalamenti’s score, while the latter will collect already-used songs by Chromatics, Au Revoir Simone, and The Cactus Blossoms, as well as perhaps tracks from other previously announced musicians, such as Julee Cruise, Eddie Vedder, Sky Ferreira, Sharon Van Etten, and more.

Both soundtracks are out September 8 via Rhino. Maybe you didn’t. For a person like me, there’s no way of telling. Your experience is inextricably separate from mine. Why can’t we know one another. You and me. I wish to reach you. I write to you, to tell you. Know that Elysia Crampton, formerly E+E (as “we” journalists like to make note of), has a new album out. It’s called Spots y Escupitajo.

So, if you didn’t know before; now you know. And here’s the concept. Here it is. Take it, for all it’s worth. I give it to you, not through my own para-filter, but just as The Vinyl Factory gave it to me (and yes, I can only hope it was “me” to whom they gave it):

Following the collaboration between Elysia Crampton, Kelela and Adrian Piper, ‘Final Exam’, The Vinyl Factory join with Elysia on her next solo release. Spots y Escupitajo. The release braids legacies from both American club culture and sonic miniature compositions in the form of a 12” sample pack. The LP honors the Aymara figure chuqui chinchay, and the legacy of Elysia’s deceased grandparents.

Okay, here are some more facts. Chuqui chinchay is a gender non-binary god. The label has also referenced particular artists: William Grant Still, DJ Rodini, DJ Saiber, John Adams, Mega DJs.

Also, the album is of two parts; Spots, which are short-form compositions or samples, and, I guess, Escupitajo, which translates to something like “spitting” or “spittoon” — those being the full-length tracks.

The thing is OUT NOW—digital formats and limited-to-300 vinyl pressing—at The Vinyl Factory and other places, where you can hear little samples of all the tracks. The two longest are available in-full down below, followed by the cover art and tracklisting. So, again, if you didn’t “know” these things before; now you know. And one of the latest and greatest in this long line of Dap-superstars are a trio of women, blessed with huge voices, from about 50 miles outside Memphis — known to friends and neighbors as Ester, Angela and Della, and to the rest of us as The Como Mamas.

The Mamas put out their Daptone debut back in 2013, an all-a capella set of real-deal church music called Get An Understanding. For their next go-around, though, the three belters linked up with “The Glorifiers Band,” a session group of Dap-players led by label founder Bosco Mann, to lay a healthy amount of heavy, meat & potatoes R&B under their testifying. The resulting album Move Upstairs, mixes and mashes various modes of soulfulness — sacred and otherwise — into a frenzied collection just about hot enough for any summertime potlucks, tag sales, or front-step-sitting sessions you might have coming up.

What’s more: the jewels of Como, MS are all-set to debut their video for album cut “Count Your Blessings,” which takes us on a tour of the ladies’ hometown from the fire department to church and back again, with plenty of time to hang with the extended family in between. It is joyful; it is awesome; and we are happy to premiere it for you today here on Tiny Mix Tapes.

The Como Mamas also support the nonprofit Music Maker Relief Foundation, which works to support Southern musicians and preserve their legacies, “ensuring their voices will not be silenced by poverty and time.” Read about the foundation — and maybe back them up — right here. Legend has it that the label discovered the artist by stumbling across his Soundcloud page, where they found the bloodied remnants of time spent on the Jamaican mixtape trade, its subdued resonance turned violently tense by culture shock…like Silent Hill samples suddenly gnashing at the throats of the drums they were chopped to accompany.

Horrific in the best sense possible, Marks’ Drain streams in its entirety down below.
