I was raised by people who proudly called themselves “white trash,” and loved everything to do with country music and the whole Urban Cowboy thing. I used to get punished by my assorted stepfathers for listening to music by [insert racist, sexist, homophobic slur here], instead of “real American music,” and all of them good ol’ wholesome songs about beer and guns and cheatin’ and trucks and ladies in tight-fittin’ jeans and cowboy boots.
