You know what they say: no matter how hard you work your ass off in the short-term, that stubborn belly is always just gonna come back eventually.

Funny, I kinda always thought people were talking about…something else when they said that; but nope, turns out they were talking about the co-ed 90s alt rock quartet Belly.

Yeah. Remember them? The band who wasn’t as gross as Hole? And used way more phasers on their guitars than the Breeders?? Their big hit was “Feed The Tree” off of their 1993 debut Star?? Yes, NOW we’re cooking!

Well: after quietly dissolving in 1996 to pursue “their own creative paths” (real press quote), Belly are BACK BABY BACK with a new self-released album, a shiny new single, some North American tour dates — the whole Rock Band kinda deal.

“We had just gotten to the point where we were just missing each other, and missing the music,” says guitarist/vocalist Tanya Donelly. “The music I’ve been doing in the past several years has been very collaborative, which made me kind of homesick for Belly; I missed that sense of having a band.”

Okay, sweet. BACKSTORY ESTABLISHED. Now, there’s the lowdown:

The new album is ALT ROCK as fuck. It’s called DOVE. Written in all caps. There’s lots of fuchsia and teal involved. Pretty great.

The single, “Shiny One,” has a bongo groove in it. And those digital delay repeating guitars like The Edge always used (RIP, right?). And a fucking GUITAR SOLO. Amazing. Along with the art and tracklisting, it’s streaming right down below; and it seems to works fine, so someone must have helped them upload it to YouTube.

Pre-order DOVE here and catch the band on the road this spring. Or summer. Or fall. (The dates are a little spread out, okay? Sue them for taking it slow. It’s been TWENTY THREE YEARS.)

Bottom line? Like it or not: that Belly of yours is BACK. And it’s looking HUGER than ever.
