About to be reissued: About to Choke by Vic Chesnutt; About to get excited: you

There’s little that I can say about the loss of singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt that hasn’t already been said repeatedly and with varying degrees of pathos since his death last December (TMT News). What I can say, however, is that Plain Recordings, the label responsible for incredible reissues from My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, and Elliott Smith (not that the list stops there), has announced a release date for their reissue of Vic Chesnutt’s one-time flirt with a major label, About to Choke.

About to Choke was mixed by Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould, and has long been lauded as one of Chesnutt’s most accessible albums. When it was released in 1996, the album received attention not only for being on EMI/Capitol, but also for being released shortly after Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation, a (major label) tribute to Vic Chesnutt’s work, with covers from Sparklehorse, R.E.M., Madonna, and The Smashing Pumpkins, as well as some amusing renditions by Hootie & the Blowfish, Garbage, and The Indigo Girls.

Plain Recordings’ reissue will be released June 15 on CD, 180-gram vinyl, and digitally.
