Charles Mingus’ The Lost Tapes unearthed for November release

Charles Mingus' The Lost Tapes unearthed for November release

Unreleased jazz records from the dusty archives keep surfacing this year. Just several months ago, we were treated to Both Directions at Once, an unearthed Coltrane recording that came right off the heels of The Final Tour, which captured Miles Davis with John. And don’t forget Dexter Gordon’s Tokyo 1975 record, immortalizing the saxophonist in his prime.

Next up is Charles Mingus’ The Lost Tapes, a collection of live shows from one of the most respected bassists in jazz. Releasing November 2, the record chronicles Mingus’ weeklong 1973 residency at the Strata Concert Gallery in Detroit. This is a special one, featuring the only time saxophonist John Stubblefield, who only remained with the band for five months, would be recorded live with Mingus…(ah um, better git it in your soul.)

Check out the sampler down below — and pre-order The Lost Tapes on 5 LPs or 5 CDs and you’ll get a snazzy booklet and poster.
