I know if seems like summer just got here or whatever…but: WRONG. School is already back in session, you guys. Because as officially christened Joyful Noise Recordings Artists in Residence, the scholarly ladies and gentlemen of Deerhoof — along with a bunch of its related side projects —plan to studiously release five LPs in three installments throughout 2017.

The first installment features two split 12-inches that includes various Deerhoof-related artists: Nervous Cop, Oneone, Murmurer, and Les Bon Hommes. These three are actually OUT NOW and available digitally here for a pay-what-you-want ($1 minimum) price, with the proceeds going to Brand New Congress, a political action committee of former Bernie Sanders campaign staffers.

The second installment, expected later this summer, will be a new, bona fide Deerhoof record. Like all good “second installments,” it’ll be followed by followed by a “third installment” in late fall comprised of two more splits featuring four as-yet secret artists.

Alas, precious few details regarding that new Deerhoof album have surfaced yet, but we do know that a limited version will come as “a hand-numbered, custom wooden box set” containing all four side-project splits as colored LPs, in addition to the album. This set will be available to subscribers of the Joyful Noise Artist in Residence series or for $100.

Meanwhile, you can find more info on Deerhoof’s Artist in Residence series at Joyful Noise’s website and watch the video trailer below to preview tracks. BEST GET STUDYIN’.
