Ahead of Franck Vigroux’s forthcoming Totem, out May 24 via Aesthetical Recordings, the French composer has released a teaser video that…well, let’s just say it ain’t exactly Wallace and Gromit. A stark departure from Vigroux’s usual hyperdigital visuals, the teaser heads in a more organic direction, but still manages to capture the cynicism suggested by the musician’s harsh, confrontational sound. Totem explores the tensions between ancient and modern mythologies through its ten tracks. A fascinating pursuit, no doubt, but judging from the album’s cover, maybe Franck needs a hug amid all the theorising.
