The War of 2018.

It’s time to party like it’s 2012. Gary War, one-time member of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and likewise a first-rate purveyor of psychedelic pop’s hypnagogic alter ego, is set to release his first album in nearly six years. Gaz Forth will be out February 9 on Feeding Tube Records.

Since we last heard from him, War — a.k.a. Greg Dalton — a.k.a. the guy-whose-vocals-always-sound-like-they-were-recorded-underwater — has been performing in the psych duo Dalthom (with Sunburned Hand of The Man’s Rob Thomas) and even gave outsider legend Bobb Trimble a hand on stage. According to the press release, Gaz Forth will feature “War’s subliminal glam and his trademarked futurist space squeedle,” with less of a synth-pop spin of his earlier recordings. If the heavily-acoustic track he’s shared so far is any indication, I have to say the press release is right.

Speaking of: “Windows and Walls,” the first fragment of the LP online, is streaming down below. No pre-orders are available yet (hey, online pre-orders weren’t as much of a a thing back in 2012; give the guy a break!), but in the mean time, you can learn more about Gaz Forth — which will only be out on 300 vinyl copies — right here.

Glad to have you back, Gary! If there’s one thing 2018 needs like hell…it’s a little more War.
