Record Store Day boosts vinyl sales 2,000%; record store clerks ask if they can go get coffee now

You might think kindergartners made up these ridiculous percentages, but according to BuzzAngle Music, they’re all true. In the first-ever release of Record Store Day sales data, the website is quoting some sales figures that should make independent record store owners and fans ridiculously happy, and not-fully-recovered indie record store employees ridiculously exhausted.

It was a big one this year. The biggest, even, and one of the first to prominently feature releases from mainstream artists (a sometimes controversial move). Independent record stores reported a 2,042% vinyl sales jump last Saturday for Record Store Day, with an average 645% sales growth in comparison to the previous Saturday (again, yes, these are real, verifiable, not made up by a hyperbolic child on a bus sales figures). BuzzAngle has kindly compiled some lists of Record Store Day’s Top 25 Albums and Top 25 Singles. Good to see Bruce Springsteen and Joy Division finally getting some recognition!
