Italian club/music concrete artist Silvia Kastel shines a little white light on the Blackest Ever Black label with debut solo album
Hallelujah, I've turned towards the light.

I’m not sure what “religion” she is (or isn’t); but, as far as Italian electronic artist Silvia Kastel is concerned, heaven must be nothing less than a pristine, ethereal, infinitely-spacious…dance club.

And now, having long been a respected-but-somewhat-shadowed facilitator/collaborator in her chosen underground scene (e.g. as one half of Control Unit and boss of the avant-garde electronic label Ultramarine), Kastel is ready to start preaching her unique, otherworldly interpretation of club music to the masses with her debut solo album Air Lows on the venerable Blackest Ever Black label.

Prompted by “a late-flowering interest in techno and club music,” Kastel set out to combine the propulsive pulse of techno-pop and minimalism with “the otherworldly sonorities of musique concrete, and avant-garde synth sounds.” The resultant tracks — with their icy bell peels, cool blasts of reverb, and monk-ish sub-bass drones — take the confined, sweaty, dark, claustrophobic space you’re probably used to dancing in and turn it inside-the-fuck-out, until it’s like you’re suddenly partying amidst the glittering, never-ending expanse of snow white Alpine mountain peaks or some shit.

Thinking of switching religions yourself now, aren’t you? No shame. Air Lows arrives to baptize your filthy ass November 10 on vinyl and digital. Meanwhile, you can pre-order it here, and listen to the hypnotic tintinnabulation of “Bruell” down below. If you start to get cold feet, just keep calm and repeat the mantra while listening: heaven is a club, heaven is a club, heaven is a club…
