Jónsi announces tour, gives away silver pendants that hopefully don't look like Arwen's pendant from LOTR

There are moments in life — blustery cold days in October, for example — when the best culinary treat you can think of is a warm sandwich spread with banana slices and Nutella. You go to the pantry, and (no surprise, considering your budget), to your great disappointment, there’s only peanut butter. This is one case where it’s no delicious hazelnut spread, but it’ll do.

Jónsi is a little like that. For those who have seen Sigur Rós in concert, you spend your days waiting for these ethereal Icelanders to tour again. Jónsi’s not Sigur Rós, but if our review of his XL solo debut Go is any indication, he’ll do just fine in the meantime. Jónsi will begin his tour of North America October 15, finally heading abroad in November.

There’s still a chance for a pretty good taste of Sigur Rós’s live brilliance; the renowned 59 Productions, in collaboration with Phil Eddolls, are handling the production. According to Jónsi’s site, the team “has created a cross-artform live stage show bringing together the worlds of film, art installation, theatre performance, animation, and live concert.” We can’t guarantee that this doesn’t just mean laser lights with Finding Nemo screened on a sheet, but somehow I doubt it.

There’s even more impetus to buy tickets: each ticket purchaser (including Europe and Asia shows) will receive a preview of a forthcoming Sigur Rós live film (via email), in addition to automatic entry into a contest to win Ágaetis Byrjun 10th anniversary solid silver pendants, or original framed artwork by Jónsi and Alex. Check out more details here.

After all, peanut butter has its merits too.
