James Elkington and Nathan Salsburg reunite for another round of acoustic guitar duets for Paradise of Bachelors

Sometimes all you need for a rocking good time is an acoustic guitar; just ask that guy at the campsite who takes requests and then proceeds to ignore your request and play “Wonderwall” ad infinitum.

Two acoustic gun-slingers who definitely know more than the Oasis standards are Nathan Salsburg (who spends his spare time curating the Alan Lomax Archives) and James Elkington (who you’ll recognize as that guitarist who has recently stood on stage with some people you may have heard of, like Jeff Tweedy, Steve Gunn, and Richard Thompson). The pair quietly rocked our socks off back in 2011 when they released an album of guitar duets called Avos.

The Salsburg/ Elkington guitar alliance has now returned with another album of guitar duets called Ambsace, which Paradise of Bachelors will release on September 18. The label describes the album as “a sublime suite of nimble, filigreed compositions,” which is composed of originals and a few covers, including tracks by The Smiths and Duke Ellington.

We can confirm that Ambsace will not feature an acoustic rendering of “Wonderwall” and that the pair currently have no plans to record such a thing.

Here is the opening track “Up of Stairs.”
