Artists tend to know a lot about themselves and continue their self-learning with each new song or piece they create. I’m sure Montréal-Beirut producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Matana Roberts, Suuns) recognizes his many creative lanes, but he seems to make his most interesting art when he swerves into the serendipities and shared sensibilities that come from working with other artists — in particular, his partner in Jerusalem In My Heart, the filmmaker and visual artist Charles-André Coderre. Jerusalem In My Heart is a modern Arabic audio-visual project involving two collaborators in different disciplines, but the results are singularly unique and sublime.

It’s no secret that the music that trickles out of Montréal’s Mile End neighborhood through the legendary Constellation Records is loved by millions, and its latest is as impressive as the other 136 in its catalog. Daqa’iq Tudaiq is the third album by JIMH (after the acclaimed Mo7it Al-Mo7it and If He Dies, If If If If If If ) and it comes out October 5 on CD, digital, and 180-gram LP (pre-order here).

An album with two distinct sides (Side A is a four-part suite of ensemble songs reinterpreting “Ya Garat Al Wadi” by prominent 20th century Egyptian composer Mohammad Abdel Wahab; Side B is “solo” new music incorporating voice, buzuk, and electronics by Moumneh), Daqa’iq Tudaiq is Jerusalem In My Heart at its most liquid and pure, as evidenced on Side B’s quiet rush of contemplation “Thahab, Mish Roujou’, Thahab”. The single and video (directed by Coderre) can be seen below, right before the album artwork and full tracklist. Upcoming tour dates in Canada and Europe are listed below as well.
