Jonny Greenwood and Krzysztof Penderecki working on new LP together while Thom Yorke twiddles thumbs in corner; Radiohead to play NYC

Meeting people is easy, at least for Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood. Thom is just so shy! It was recently announced that Greenwood and Aphex Twin would collaboratively perform numerous compositions by Krzysztof Penderecki at Poland’s Sacrum Profanum festival, and now news has arrived from Sacrum Profanum that Greenwood is set for another collaboration with the actual Penderecki himself, who is a noted major influence on Greenwood’s own compositions (most directly in Greenwood’s score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood).

The pair recently recorded a few sessions together at the Alvernia Studios in Krakow, Poland. According to Sacrum Profanum’s website, the recordings are to be released on Nonesuch Records at a presently undetermined date. The record will contain compositions by Penderecki and Greenwood that resounded at the concert crowning Wroclaw’s European Culture Congress.

In other hot Radiohead gossip, Thom Yorke has had enough inspirational chats with Michael Stipe to conjure up the energy and will to go to work like all the rest of us have to every day. So now, in addition to their performances on SNL and The Colbert Report, the band has just announced a pair of shows at the Roseland Ballroom for September 28 and 29, with Four Tet, FaltyDL, Pearson Sound, and RocketNumberNine opening both shows. According to an issued press release, tickets will go on sale at 10 AM ET on September 26 via Ticketmaster.

In an unofficial statement, Yorke was said to discourage fans from attending because there are slave children dying in the third world and the sun will soon destroy us all.
