Jorge Elbrecht (Lansing-Dreiden, Violens, Ariel Pink) announces solo retrospective album Here Lies, shares two new songs

“Music producer and visual artist” is what Jorge Elbrecht wants you to think he is, and he’s been making a compelling case for himself in the last couple of years: after mixing and producing records for Japanese Brakfast, No Joy, Frankie Rose, and Tamaryn (to name just a few), he’s currently helping out Jack Tatum with the upcoming Wild Nothing album. But damned if he’s not also a pop songwriter of extraordinary stylistic range and a knack for complex melodic arrangements. As such, Elbrecht’s career has not only included writing and performing with his own Violens and Lansing-Dreiden, as well as a brief membership in Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, but also creating under a myriad of other monikers.

On February 28, he will self-release Here Lies, a full-length LP of material from four of his alter-egos: Presentable Corpse, Coral Cross, Remynys, and Gloss Coma. Together with the announcement, the musician has also shared the album’s titular song.

Confused? Don’t worry, the full backstory of the release, as presented in a short trailer for the album, is even more complicated (although, let’s be fair: probably not entirely real). Apparently, the songs were recorded nearly 15 years ago, after Elbrecht became “disenchanted with the milieu of the city [New York]” and “progressed rapidly into old age.” What’s also interesting is that the eleven songs that make Here Lies are only a selection of “countless unreleased recordings created during this transitional period.” Hopefully the others will see the light of day eventually, too.

In the mean time, Here Lies will come as a limited edition of 300 LPs, and can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp. The first 100 of those came with a linoleum block print hand-made by Elbrecht, but, sadly, they’re already sold out. Grab one of the remaining copies now, watch the trailer for the album, and listen to “Here Lies” — as well the second single “Flesh to Ash” — down below:
