King Sunny Adé Touring North America. What? That Doesn’t Sound Like White, Uptight Indie Rock To Me!

For 40 years, Nigerian guitar groover King Sunny Adé has delighted and entranced audiences with his hypnotic marathon sets. No matter what your particular prefered musical persuasion may be, you cannot help but get up, move, and, oftentimes, involuntarily throw money when the master juju musician plays. For sure, times are tough, but if anyone is used to and deserves getting sprayed with money for performing his praise songs it’s Adé. So be prepared to see folks from all walks of life, even people from dreadful jam bands, jockey for position at the front and itching to chuck bucks at the feet of the “Minister of Enjoyment.” Ade brings his large band around North America for a rare set of dates (after performanced at both the Playboy Jazz Fest and Bonnaroo), playing 40-minute jam sets at each and every one. Or longer, depending on how much cash gets thrown up on stage. Adé works well in any setting but is particularly sweet in the festival field, of which he will play many this summer.
