Lee Ranaldo gives birth!!! (to a solo LP on Matador)

Rolling Stone’s 33rd greatest guitar player of all time is back with another solo album, this time on Matador Records! What does it sound like to hear the dude ranked a mere two slots behind Dick Dale just totally shred on his axe? It’d sound a lot like Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo because, well, it’d BE Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo. (Thurston is ranked #34, in case you’re interested. Isn’t that nice? It warms the heart. SHARING.) Ranaldo’s latest, Between the Times and the Tides hits stores March 20. It will be his ninth studio LP.

Now, this may be a solo album, but it doesn’t mean Lee Ranaldo’s going it alone. Nope, he’s brought a whole gaggle of friends along for the ride, including Nels Cline (Wilco), Alan Licht, John Medeski (Medeski Martin and Wood), bassist Irwin Menken, Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth/Disappears/Spectre Folk), Jim O’Rourke, and Bob Bert (Sonic Youth/Boss Hog). Ranaldo, along with Licht, Menken, and Shelley, will be getting their groove on this December as part of New York’s Glasslands Festival. Tourdates and tracklist to come!
