Light in the Attic and Third Man Records announce LP and turntable just for kids

Yo. You ever roll up to a preschool and find all the little toddlers toodling around, going ham on their li’l Spotify accounts and think to yourself, “Boy, I sure do wish there was a way to make all of this a little more nostalgic.” Well, pal, I’m happy to say that Light in the Attic and Third Man Records have a very cute product for you! Namely, it’s the adorably titled This Record Belongs To _____, a compilation album designed with a blank space for the child (yours by birth/adoption/chance meeting at a random preschool) to fill in their own name, provided they can spell and you can trust them to not blow it by scribbling all over the damn thing. Curated by Zach Cowie, the compilation features an assortment of kid-friendly tracks from the likes of Harry Nilsson, Nina Simone, Kermit the Frog, and The Pointer Sisters.

This Record Belongs to _____ comes with a full-color original storybook by artist Jess Rotter that tells the story of a group of animal friends who discover a mysterious black disc in the forest and futz around with it until their parents come and yell at them for knocking the tone arm on their Rega turntable out of whack. And, because reinforcing gender binaries is also something about which it’s fun to be nostalgic, there are 200 copies available in “gender equality” split pink and blue, in addition to plain-old black vinyl and CD.

Because you almost definitely don’t want your Rega to turn out like the one in the storybook, Light in the Attic has conveniently partnered with Third Man to offer a package deal with a turntable designed just for kids. It’s super light, with a built-in speaker and an automatic tone arm, as well as a USB out and auxiliary input. The LP on its own, as well as the package deal, are ready for pre-order right now and will be available on November 6.
