Because I am starvin’ over here. “Feed me, feed me” said Lil Wayne on his mixtape Da Drought 3, after proclaiming himself the “Rapper Eater.” I’m also saying that, upon proclaiming myself the “Debut Album Announcement Eater.” Gimme those debuts!
Well, here’s a three-course meal of a debut album announcement for you. Mas Ysa, the recording project of Thomas Arsenault, will release his first album, Seraph, on July 24 through Downtown Records. Although created at home, Arsenault received production help on the record from Steve Rivette (Liars, Black Dice) and had it mixed by Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire). Hear two tracks from the record: the just-premiered “Margarita” below, and the previously-released “Look Up”. And, really, while you’re at it, listen to “Why,” a song I like an awful lot, from last year’s Worth EP.
Before Mas Ysa was in the debut-album-releasing business, he was in the playing-shows-with-the-likes-of-Deerhunter-and-Purity-Ring business. Playing shows with notable groups is still very much his business, though, as he’s announced a lengthy tour with Tanlines. Look on those dates below.
