Mogwai reunite with Dave Fridmann on forthcoming album Every Country's Sun

Scottish post-rock overlords Mogwai have already assured us that they will not stop releasing music until the world has run out of witty song titles with which the band can christen their epic psyched out mope-jams.

But if you thought song titles like “I’m Jim Morrison, I’m Dead” and album titles like Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will represented the absolute peak of witty Mogwai titles, think again; Mogwai are set to prove they’ve got plenty left in the tank with their forthcoming album for the Temporary Residence label Every Country’s Sun, which will be released on September 1 and will feature tracks with side-splitting titles like “Coolverine” and “Don’t Believe the Fife.”

All this humorous wordplay is, of course, a smokescreen for the band’s intense political messages (even for an instrumental band) and given the shit storm of 2016, Every Country’s Sun promises to be another ripping experiment in balancing noise with beauty and rage with longing.

Being the first “proper” album released without founding member John Cummings, Mogwai reunited with a friendly face in producer Dave Fridmann (who previously produced Mogwai stunners Come On, Die Young and Rock Action) in his rural New York studio over the 2016/2017 winter and emerged with Every Country’s Sun, which promises to be “56 concise minutes of gracious elegance, hymnal trance-rock, and transcendental euphoria.” And guess what? You can pre-order all 56 of those euphoric minutes over here (all vinyl pre-orders also come with a bonus 7-inch, “Party in the Dark”) right now, and you can preview six or seven of those euphoric minutes right down below:
