Nigeria's DJ Obi stays awake performing 10-day set, breaks world record

On the one hand, sleep deprivation could lead to a surreal experience in which your subconscious plots an elaborate overthrow of the established societal order; on the other, sleep deprivation could lead you to breaking motherfucking world records while supporters dance in celebration both during and after the process. Guinness probably wouldn’t recognize an attempt at setting the record for consecutive time spent pouring ants down people’s pants, so what the Nigerian DJ Obi did instead was keep to his title: perform a 240-hour (or 10-day) DJ set uninterrupted by sleep or anything else. He officially set the record with the set that he performed in a Lagos cafe between June 22 and July 2. Can one assume that he was airlifted and dropped into a pool of pillows immediately following?

Rumor has it that Obi almost quit four or five days in as he began hallucinating, but encouragement from friends and locals dropping by compelled him to keep mixing. Those friends and locals helped with adherence to the Guinness requirement that at least one person be dancing at all times, and likewise on the rules front, Obi wasn’t allowed to repeat a song within any given four-hour period. He was allowed a five-minute break every hour, as well as daily medical checks, vitamins, and massages to ensure relatively stable health.

There’s no reaction yet from prior record holder Norbert Selmaj, who last set the record two years ago by DJing non-stop for 200 hours. The following vids of Obi performing the feat might inspire another sleepy challenge, however:
