Oh my god oh my god oh my god! My third favorite John Coltrane album is being reissued on vinyl! Three others too!

Hey, all you Jazz fans! (No, not the basketball team.) Have you spent hours and hours and hours trying to amass a complete collection of all 114 of John Coltrane’s studio albums on vinyl? Yeah, so have I, and if I can say one thing about my collecting habits, I can tell you that finding every Coltrane album is really fucking tough. Especially if you want them in listenable quality.

Here to save my day and answer my fervid prayers is Rhino Records, who have announced that it’s reissuing four of John Coltrane’s classic Atlantic Records albums. Coltrane Jazz and Coltrane Plays the Blues are already available for purchase, with My Favorite Things and Coltrane’s Sound scheduled for release on July 27. The albums will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl and were made at “RTI with lacquers cut from the original analog masters by Bernie Grundman.”

In October 1960, in an amazing, music changing, impossibly fertile three-day studio session, material was written and recorded that would eventually make up all four albums being reissued; countless Coltrane standards, like “Village Blues,” “My Favorite Things, “Blues for Bechet,” “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes,” “Central Park West,” “Liberia,” and “Equinox” would all see release over the next four years. Besides inspired performances by Coltrane, listeners are also treated to the musical stylings of Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, McCoy Tyner, and Elvin Jones.
