The Orb to release 16th album COW / Chill Out, World!

The Orb are back with their sixteenth (SIXTEENTH!!!) LP, COW / Chill Out, World!. Out October 14 via Kompakt, it’ll be available as a vinyl LP + download, CD, and digital download. Alex Paterson calls it “a protest album in reverse.” In pursuit of this universal chillout vibe, Roger Eno and Youth also make special appearances, although Thomas Fehlmann explains “we didn’t intend to rehash old chill out vibes. On the contrary. It’s the 21st century and it seems like a good idea for people to sit back and chill the fuck out, before continuing to act destructively. To chill out is to act consciously, guided from a calm centre.” Hear, hear!

The album only took about six months to complete in its entirety, thanks to the magic of iPhone field recordings and The Orb’s insane tour schedule bringing them closer together as artists. (They played around 300 shows over the course of the past few years.) The LP includes tracks like “9 Elms Over River Eno (Channel 9),” which features material collected at Moogfest in North caroline last year — old records from local shops, found sounds, live samples from shows, and a trip to America’s most ambient body of water, the Eno River.

You can’t preview that specific track, but you can take a listen to “5th Dimensions” below. The Orb have UK tour dates lined up for later on in the year.
