Terrence Malick is producing a Lil Peep documentary, thus confirming our total immersion in an alternate timeline

A recent New York Times feature about the posthumous work of Lil Peep has mentioned that Terrence Malick, an apparent friend of the late musician’s family, will be executive producing a documentary on his life. This, of course, is the final confirmation that our timelines are out of whack and truly anything can happen.

There will also be, reportedly, an accompanying soundtrack to the film. Malick has (in case you didn’t know) previously directed and written such films as Days of Heaven, The Tree of Life, and Knight of Cups. Given Malick’s apparent familial relationship and drama-drama-more-drama filmmaking approach, the film (I might assume) should give a new weight to the tragedy surrounding the rising artist’s death, even if a time traveler from the past might see this story and say: “no, no, I must have made some sort of mistake!” before stepping back into his aluminum pod.

The Times story focuses mainly on the upcoming Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2, Peep’s first posthumous work being handled by his friends Makonnen and Smokeasac as well as Peep’s mother, Liza Womack.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this, and all I can imagine is lots of shots of the beach at sunset, for some reason, with tattooed footprints in the sand…

Below you can watch the newly-released video for “Runaway,” directed by Peep’s mom (not Terrence Malick) and opening with her dedication. :’-( The song is set to appear on Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2.

This universe may have fallen out of space-time, but one thing remains true: “The only way to be happy is to love. Unless you love, your life will flash by.” RIP PEEP.
