Unknown Mortal Orchestra to release surprise instrumental album, IC-01 Hanoi, in October (so you have plenty of time to be surprised)

Three months is a long time to wait for Old Saint Nick to squeeze his fat ass down yer chim-chim-i-ney, B&E-ing you for your hard-earned cookies and milk in the hopes of receiving some tree-feeding baubles cloaked in gaudy wrap. Thankfully, Ruban Nielson’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra knows no holidays; he brings the jollies throughout the year. Fresh-ish off his latest merry musical, Sex & Food, it has been announced that UMO will be releasing an unexpected early holiday gift in the form of a new full-length instrumental album…in October!

Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s IC-01 Hanoi is out October 26 on Jagjaguwar and features seven tracks recorded by Nielson, his brother Kody, and frequent collaborator Jacob Portrait (with help from local musician Minh Nguyen and Nielson senior, Chris) while in Hanoi recording tracks for the last UMO platter, Sex & Food. The album is an indulgent (in the best way) exploration of sounds closer to Nielson’s jazz and avant-garde heart.

Listen to “Hanoi 6” below and try not to trip up on the tricky tracklisting below before tiptoeing through the international tour dates. IC-01 Hanoi can be pre-ordered here. Scrooges, sling yer hook elsewhere!
