Whoa, spooky! Did you guys just feel that too?
I’m pretty sure that the tectonic plates just shifted in direct geological response to the ground-shaking news that Berlin’s current grimy club queen Ziúr is fixing to release her debut full-length (following a few hot-as-fuck warm-up EP’s) this fall on Planet Mu, in collaboration with Objects Limited (a small label run by Lara Rix-Martin which is “focused on female identifying/non binary electronic producers”).
Her latest, greatest, apocalypse-precipitating effort is entitled U Feel Anything?, and it’s coming October 6 on LP, CD, and digital formats (any/all of which can/should probably be pre-ordered from Planet Mu right now…you know, before planet earth caves in on itself?).
According to a press release, the album “was written as a way to think about music as a tool of enlightenment, a de-conditioning force and the kind of yin and yang that can be summed up in the title of one of the songs ‘Laughing and Crying are The Same Things,’ a track which features Swedish pop singer Zhala, whose vocals straddle twisting beats, space and staccato strings.” Or, As Ziúr herself puts it, “I believe you can only tell that something is harsh when you have a soft side to compare it to. If everything is amazing then nothing is, right?”
Well, maybe NOT QUITE: the album’s swelling, pulsing, hard/soft-contrasting title track — in which wall-tumbling drum vamps give way to pillowy string swells before melting off into tiny black holes of silence — admittedly still sounds pretty amazing.
