Bird By Snow
"Friends In The City"

Fletcher Tucker, a.k.a. Bird By Snow, has been self-releasing home recordings on his own imprint Gnome Life for the past few years, which in internet years translates to roughly 6.5 years. This means that Bird By Snow is a veteran on the web’s hyper-accelerated temporal scale, and his fourth album, Common Wealth — produced by Tim Green (Wolves In The Throne Room, Citay, The Fucking Champs) — proves as much. The album is due in late October, and with beautiful locks like his, why wouldn’t you check it out? I mean, seriously, you can’t get that kind of hair using cheap shit like Pert Plus. I want his hair on my chest.

ICP Orchestra

“Steigerpijp”

A day in the life of European improvisers Instant Composers Pool Orchestra: Han Bennink hollers out the window of a vintage Volvo, Misha Mengelberg (temporarily) befriends a metal pipe, Tristan Honsinger heads straight for the pool hall, Thomas Heberer becomes an ostrich, Mary Oliver pulls a knife from her violin case, Ab Baars is prepped for his gig as a window mannequin, Wolter Wierbos finally catches a ride, Tobias Delius blows tenor on the street, Michael Moore meditates in the middle of the road, Ernst Glerum plays double bass on the back of a naked woman.

“Steigerpijp” is the first video from ICP 049, which is out now on their ICP Records imprint. The tentet will be bringing their pranks to North American streets in Spring 2011, with select dates in Boston, New York, New Haven, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.

The Foxymorons

“This Too Shall Pass”

Above is the official video for “This Too Shall Pass,” a track off The Foxymorons’ new album, Bible Stories. Below is a link to The Foxymorons’ website. In the middle is this very paragraph that you’re reading, in which I explain how, because physical contact is so 1990s, the band members filmed the video separately using their iPhones and later edited it using iChat’s screen-share program through an old version of iMovie. SHHH… Listen hard enough and you might hear Steve Jobs stroking his iDick.

Back To The Future The Ride

“Zero Ghost”

Do you remember Lea Thompson’s cleavage in Back To The Future? Of course you do, PERVERT. In related news, Back To The Future The Ride (the band) has released a new video for a track called “Zero Ghost” off the Pronoia Sunsets cassette on Accidie Records, but why, dear reader, can I not stop thinking about Lea’s cleavage?

Antony and the Johnsons

“Flétta” [feat. Björk]

Early this morning, Antony posted a link to Tumblr on his Twitter, directing us to new song “Flétta,” his incredible duet with Björk Guðmundsdóttir. Give a listen, buy the new album Swanlights on October 12 (via Secretly Canadian), and weep like you’ve never weeped before.

Tu Fawning

“The Felt Sense”

Tu Fawning, featuring Portland’s Corrina Repp and Joe Haege, are releasing their debut full-length, Hearts On Hold, on October 5 through their own Provenance Records. Why their own record label? According to the band:

We have all seen enough to know that many artists sacrifice creative control, even in small ways, upon deciding to work with a 3rd party. Hell, they (record labels) used to decide what song you’d play, who’d you play with and when you’d release it…and then they might not pay you! While it may not be that bad anymore, at least on the independent label level, you are still a commodity. Art will always take a backseat to the notion of moving units. But what happens when you are driving the car and you invite art to the front seat?

Buckle up, readers.
