♫♪  Georgia Sounds - “NailBon”

Air conditioners hum at each end of the apartment. Doors previously kept open for the cross-breeze are now closed. They see each other through passing objects, like washed dishes drying in the rack, and a new plant on the windowsill. The sounds of him moving around. His muffled voice, and voices coming out of his phone. All utterances, not so much words. Certain things repeat, like dinner. Other times, they’re both totally alone. He texted her about some small thing and hours have passed and he hasn’t come home. The thought, “Where is he?” doesn’t manifest. She makes sounds, too. He can probably hear her playing “NailBon” behind her closed door. He might think it’s her speaking, but she’s said nothing for hours. Sometimes, she leaves the door cracked open for no reason. Not even street sounds come through the windows anymore. Unintentionally, secrets abound. Who’s whispering? Can whispers be kept secret? When they see each other, it’s normal. But then there’s a point where they’ve said all they can or want to say and they go and close the door.
