♫♪  Wimps - “Old Guy”

Since 1991, Portland-based label Kill Rock Stars has consistently been a defining source of the Pacific Northwest’s punk rock. Well, that and, like, rain.

Shitty weather and edginess aside, Wimps’ new music video for “Old Guy,” off their 2015 album Suitcase, translates well to the seminal label’s sound, the track as light-hearted as it is catchy. Both the song and the video poke fun at the band’s age (the members are older than 30) in a music scene undoubtedly saturated with piss-pants 20-somethings. Looking beyond the catchy pop-infused sound of “Old Guy” and the goofy, yet undeniably enjoyable dance-off in the accompanying video, Wimps remind listeners of their knack for well-crafted pop songs and maturity (they have seven releases since 2012), as guitarist/singer Rachel Ratner belts, “All the stuff you have done, I’ve seen one thousand times before.”

Also, if you’re lucky enough to live on the West Coast and into hearing solid rock & roll this summer, Wimps will be touring starting at the end of the month.
