The Antlers Make Every Single “Best of 2009” List in the Universe, Announce Winter Tourdates

The Antlers must think they’re pretty special, with Hospice (TMT Review) having appeared on “Best of 2009” lists from such taste-making websites and publications as Pitchfork, NPR, The Onion A.V. Club, Paste, Filter, and Popmatters. Hell, even Teen Vogue said that they have “Brilliant lyricism and shimmering choruses.” Well, Antlers, there’s one list that you won’t make it to the top of. Yeah, you guessed right. This dude is a blogger and he’s pissed. Next time, try to look both ways before crossing the freeway, okay? You have a long tour ahead of you, and I’d hate to see this happen before you make it back to the East Coast.

New Pornographers to Release Together on May 4

Matador Records have announced The New Pornographers’ latest release Together. The album is due May 4 and was “recorded in Vancouver, Brooklyn, Woodstock, and Catskill, NY.” It will feature all regular eight members plus guest appearances from St Vincent, Zach Condon (Beirut), and Will Sheff (Okkervil River). Three of the songs have been written by Dan Bejar, while the remaining nine were penned by A.C. Newman.

Their latest LP is the “supergroup’s” fifth full-length – but after that many albums, I guess you’re not really “super” anymore, since no one ever describes them like that now. They need to get Thom Yorke on board to resurrect their supergroup status. He seems bored at the moment.

Beirut/Arcade Fire Side Project Team B Wanna Give It to Ya… A Free EP, That Is. That’s Totally What I Meant. WHAT?

People love free stuff. I mean, look at you: you’re probably reading this because it said “free” in the headline, right? Yes, it’s true that Beirut/Arcade Fire side project Team B is giving fans a free download of its new EP, The Lost Son, which is pretty cool in and of itself. But do you know what’s even cooler than a free EP? A free EP with an accordion on it. That’s right: Beirut accordion dude Perrin Cloutier features on the recording. And bandleader Kelly Pratt uses words from Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Theodore Roethke as lyrics. Go on, download it.

Beach House Tour, Motorhome Feels Replaced

Ahoy! Beach House have emerged from their upstate New York recording lair and are ready to bliss out on the road this winter and spring in support of their January 26 Sub Pop debut, Teen Dream. Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand describe this album as one that’s thrown them for a loop: “We were forced to let go of people and things we were holding onto as individuals: normalcy, daily rituals, the ability to take care of ourselves. We were dropped into a wilderness, but we had more clarity than we’ve ever had before.” So what’s it going to do to audiences? Be a perv, apparently: “Rhythmically, there’s new motion. This record touches you. On your chest.”

Alto-voiced Bachelorette, a one-woman dance band from New Zealand, lends tour support for the first jaunt, and lo-fi roller disco aficionado Washed Out brings up the rear. It’s the Minimal Personnel Tour!
