Challenging and innovative at every turn, Jason Lescalleet’s Glistening Examples label is forever celebrating sound constructors who delve into their assemblage work with nary a care in the world for the word “typical.” Today, the label issues two new albums from manipulators Christian Mirande and Derek Rogers.

The first in a series of works inspired by the American impressionist painter Daniel Garber, Philly-based noise composer Christian Mirande’s Trying to Remember a House uses resynthesis, tape manipulation, and field recordings to create a concept album dedicated to capturing the sound and feel of the once-rural Bucks County, PA, before its transformation into urban sprawl. Expect sparse drone beauty and moods of excruciating anxiety as Mirande creates an ambitious series of aural snapshots.

Also available today is the latest masterclass in mesmerizing long-form (and some shorties too) epic sound from Derek Rogers. With over 50 albums to his credit on every “important” label you can think of, it is not surprising Silence is Being Substituted found its way onto Lescalleet’s imprint. Rogers loves to mix things up, and this time around, it’s the perfect (glistening) example of his art. Earnest and enthusiastic, Silence is Being Substituted melds all of Rogers’s avant-strengths into what might be his most rewarding listen yet. At least of the ones I’ve heard (I did say “over 50 albums to his credit” above!).

Stream both releases below, and check out the Glistening Examples site for a pre-order opportunity for two other new releases coming November 11: Olivia Block’s Dissolution and Joe Colley’s No Way In.
