Don Fleming, producer extraordinaire, features Kim Gordon, R. Stevie Moore, Julie Cafritz on new EP

They say that behind every great album, there’s a great producer. (They say that, right? Oh well.) The producer — unless he’s featured in Jay-Z videos or related to someone who once went out with Lindsay Lohan — is often a mysterious, shadowy figure, injecting magic and backing vocals into tracks. Now, you may have heard the name Don Fleming before — after all, dude was in Half Japanese, late 90s supergroup Stars and The Velvet Monkeys — but his illustrious production career might come as some surprise. Fleming has worked with Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth, Richard Hell, Andrew W.K., The Posies, and sooooo many more. And now the eminently-qualified Mr. Fleming has announced the release of his first solo EP since 1998.

Don Fleming 4 is the name of the guitarist/producer’s new four-song EP, available digitally through Instant Mayhem on July 12, and on CD via Thick Syrup Records on August 2. Within a mere four songs, Fleming traverses the spectrum of the rock ‘n’ roll universe, with guest collaborators including Kim Gordon, Julie Cafritz (Pussy Galore, Free Kitten), and underground wonder R. Stevie Moore. Instant Mayhem also recently reissued The Velvet Monkeys’ 1981 debut Everything Is Right.

02. Torn by the Hands That You Could Not See (ft. Kim Gordon
