Ducktails announce date for third full-length album, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics, not unlike his previous two

Follow-ups are nice. You get a lollipop and presumably a bill of good health at the doctor’s, a call that the LP you special ordered has come in, or a friendly but tepid e-mail reply to the regrettable Facebook message you sent your ex in a drunken haze of self-pity and sexual frustration. Well, this summer, we reported that Matt Mondanile, a.k.a. Ducktails, was planning a third album, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics. We’ve been in the dark since then about a date for this anticipated third work of New Jersey psych pop, but the wait for waiting time details is over.

It was recently confirmed that the album will be coming out January 10, on Woodsist as previously announced. Now you can rest easy and spend the rest of your afternoon fixating on something important, like this.

Jens Lekman plays Los Angeles, Brooklyn in December; happy holidays to West + East coasts, but screw the Midwest

Ever since Jens Lekman moved from Sweden to Australia, we haven’t heard much from him. There were some tracks released digitally this year, but what’s up, Jens? Why are you actually so silent? Anyone who’s really into Jens knows that he’s not entirely unresponsive to the world — he’s one of the few artists who encourages fans to write him letters, centering on a topic he provides monthly (October was “self portraits”; this month it’s “fine print”). And Jens clearly does what he can: this December, he announced to his fans that he’ll be working in New York and will therefore grace Brooklyn with a show. A few days before, he’s playing a show in Los Angeles (the only other date scheduled in the US), so you know, I guess he really is all over the place. At least he has an excuse for keeping us in the dark so long — for now.

Former Supergrass guitar player Charly Coombes releases new EP, tours UK

Former Supergrass guitar dude Charly Coombes is rockin’ his merry way across the UK this fall, with a new band and a new EP. (You may also know Mr. Coombes as the keyboard player in The 22-20s.) Known as Charly Coombes & The New Breed, the group’s sound combines elements of Northern soul, garage rock, and indie pop, and despite their short time in existence, CCATNB have already shared the stage with The Coral and Dave Grohl. The group’s latest recording, the Waves EP, was produced by another Supergrass dude, Charly’s brother Gaz, lead Supergrass dude. Ahhhh! Keepin’ it in the family at its finest.

Waves EP is set for a November 29 release in the UK.

No Age invite you to stay warm this winter by brutalizing your senses during their upcoming tour

How can you be cold if you don’t have any skin to feel cold with? That’s what No Age asked themselves before they came up with the perfect plan to keep you toasty this winter. For showgoers who see No Age when the temperatures are hitting below thirty degrees, the duo has decided to play so loud and so fast that the skin of their fans melts right off of them. They’ll walk out of venues back into the frozen streets with their senses so destroyed that they won’t even be able to string together a sentence, let alone feel the need for a winter jacket.

Kayo Dot make peace with the coyotes by offering Coyote on vinyl. Also: a tour!

If you know anything about coyotes (and I’m sure you do), you know that coyotes hate being limited to digital and CD formats. They hate hate hate it! So, I don’t understand why exactly psych-metalers Kayo Dot decided to initially release their recent record Coyote without also releasing it on vinyl. You guys hate coyotes or something? Do you want them to suffer without the sweet satisfaction of existing on vinyl? Just pure cruelty there.

Fortunately, Kayo Dot have since realized their mistake. Thus, an LP release of Coyote is now available. And a fancy LP release at that: it’s a 200-gram vinyl with alternate artwork and a letterpress jacket that has notches in which a 28” x 7” belt tucks in. Said belt features art by Toby Driver, who did the record’s cover and label art. Fancy stuff — so fancy in fact that only 750 exist. They’ll be selling the record on their November tour. Oh yeah, by the way, they’re touring North America in November. Thought you should know.

Kayo Dot dates:

11.08.10 - Montreal, QC - Casa del Popolo
11.09.10 - Ottawa, ON - Cafe Dekcuf
11.10.10 - Toronto, ON - Sneaky Dee’s
11.11.10 - Middletown, CT - Eclectic House (Wesleyan University)
11.12.10 - Baltimore, MD - Orion Sound Studios
11.13.10 - Bethlehem, PA - Secret Art Space
11.14.10 - Brooklyn, NY - Littlefield

News Corp. admits defeat, gives Myspace mere months to improve

Just when things appeared to be on the upswing for good ol’ Myspace! Despite the fact that it recently rebranded its name from “MySpace” to “Myspace,” it seems that making a single letter lowercase doesn’t exactly draw in tons of internet traffic. In fact, News Corp. executives have put the social network on notice, giving them less than a year to save the ailing website.

In a recent statement, Chase Carey, News Corp.’s president, called Myspace “a problem” and noted that the most important issue was building interest with consumers. (You don’t say!) Unfortunately, with quarterly losses increasing by $30 million to $156 million, it might be too little, too late for the aging social network. If the next few quarters don’t improve, a sale rather than a shutdown is expected. Your hear that, Zuck? Looks like you might be able to afford a second pair of sandals after all.
