Fire breaks out at 100% Silk show in Oakland, several reported dead, many missing

UPDATE (12/4, 12:05 PM): 100% Silk has issued a statement on its FB account. “What happened in Oakland is an unbelievable tragedy, a nightmare scenario. Britt and I are beside ourselves, utterly devastated. We are a very tight community of artists and we are all praying, sending love and condolences to everyone involved and their families.” Read the rest here, and be sure to check out the links that they provide.

This morning, The Los Angeles Times reported that the death toll is now at 24, with 80% of the building still left unsearched.

A massive fire broke out at an Oakland warehouse during a 100% Silk show Friday night, which included Golden Donna, Nackt, Cherushii, and more on the bill. According to the East Bay Times, 9 people have died and 25 are unaccounted for as of noon today. Officials say they are prepping for “up to 40 more fatalities.”

“The blaze is already being called one of the deadliest single-structure fires in Oakland’s history, if not the deadliest,” reports the Easy Bay Times.

Posts on the show’s Facebook event page seek confirmation of the safety of their loved ones. Artists Cherushii (Chelsea Faith) and Nackt (Johnny Igaz) are among those listed as missing. A Google Doc has been started to help find missing persons.

The building is an artists collective and houses roughly 50 people, according to reports.

A YouCaring campaign has been setup to provide relief. Find that here.

We’ll update as soon as more word comes. :(
