Frank Ocean cancels summer European festival dates, pulls out of the Coldplay tour you didn't know he was opening

Frank Ocean and the men of Coldplay will no longer be making beautiful, kinda schmaltzy music that your mom digs and you kinda secretly like because of the Frank Factor but are like “nah my mom likes that ish, I can’t feel it” together. Because, with little explanation, Frank Ocean is pulling out of an upcoming stadium tour with Coldplay. Did you know Frank Ocean would be rockin’ the Doritos Presents Cool Ranch Auditorium in Americaville, Missouri alongside Chris Martin et al, potentially appearing from out of a swirling mass of stage fog to sing the chorus on “Clocks” during the English lads’ encore? No? Well now you know… what could have been.

For the good people of Cool Ranch Auditorium and assorted European summer festivals, the bad news popped off a couple days ago at Sweden’s Way Out West festival, when Ocean pulled himself from the line-up. Storm clouds had been ambiguously a-brewin’ since Norway’s Oya Festival last Friday, when the dark R&B wunderkind performed four songs before finishing his brief set early, due to voice issues. However, Ocean’s disappearance from the summer tour circuit has not yet been confirmed as a result of vocal problems. In a statement on Way Out West’s website, Ocean says, “Let me start by saying I feel like an asshole right now, but a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as fuck, I’ll be back if you’ll have me.” The smooth operator will be absent from Bestival, Flow Festival, Pukkelpop, and V Festival, along with the aforementioned August Coldplay tour.
