When a new artist signs to Matador Records, I run around the TMT offices in a matador costume, shouting “Olay!” This happens often, and it’s sometimes a HR nightmare. On the bright side, I get to write today about Memphis-based songwriter Julien Baker joining Matador after the release of her debut album, Sprained Ankle. Oh shit, HR is coming over here right now. I better with this fast before they make me go home for the day.
Sprained Ankle will be seeing a physical release March 17 on Matador, as well as the release of a new 7-inch featuring unreleased tracks “Funeral Pyre” and “Distant Solar System.” Alright, Martha from HR is asking me to take off my matador costume really quick. One second… okay, I’m back. I also wanted to point out that Baker will be going on tour, and I’ll have those dates for you below. Now Martha is asking me to put clothes on. I told her I can’t do that, and she went to call the cops. Olay!
