Are you looking for a little peace and calm this summer? Ready to just sit back and relax with a good book? Instead of doing something mundane like reading, you could be relaxing with Lil Wayne’s newly announced summer tourdates. It’s true, Lil Wayne’s tourdates will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated — like you can take on anything.

So what if every venue he’s playing is named after a corporate giant (Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, you name it) and if you attend, you will most likely have crowds of thousands that you’ll have to navigate through. Lil Wayne’s tourdates are there for you, when you need them the most. Lil Wayne’s newest album, Tha Carter IV, is also there for you as of June 21 via Young Money Records.

Indie pop darlings The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are feeling fresh from the success of their sophomore album Belong (TMT Review), which was released at the end of March to critical acclaim. In a heartwarming twist, this 2009 buzz band is taking current buzz band Craft Spells with them on the North American portion of the tour to serve as an opening act/confidant/person to take the photograph in front of that giant space needle-lookin’ thing in Toronto. Bon Iver announces summer tourdates, promises to bring an inflatable pool and Slip-N-Slide to each show

When you’re playing the biggest venues you’ve ever played as a victory lap from collaborating with Kanye West, it’s only fitting that you do it up as big as possible on your upcoming tour. Especially if said tour occurs in the summer when everyone is generally in a good mood. To celebrate his success into the upper echelon of indie rock stardom, Justin Vernon a.k.a. Bon Iver will not only be performing with an eight-piece band, but he’ll be bringing along an inflatable swimming pool AND a Slip-N-Slide to every show. Yes, even if you’re seeing him in some old theater that was built in 1903, it doesn’t matter. Word has it that Vernon even bought new swim trunks for the occasion. Dude is about to get wild and crazy this summer. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. His new album Bon Iver, Bon Iver will be out just in time on June 21, via Jagjaguwar.

Northside Festival 2011 adds tons of bands, congratulates itself on having such good taste

To avenge their leader Sean Bin No Skinny Jeans’ death, the anti-hipster terrorist network has decided to take action. It has been widely reported this week that their next target will be McCarren Park in Brooklyn, New York, anywhere from June 16 to 19, as hipsters from all across the tri-state area gather outside for the Northside Festival. As if the terrorist network needed any more proof that their plastic glasses-wearing nemesis would be in attendance, the Northside Festival announced an additional 65 new bands this week that have been added to their lineup:

Surfer Blood, Sharon Van Etten, Theophilus London, DOM, Mount Eerie, The Strange Boys, Iceage (US debut), Frankie Rose & the Outs, Cult of Youth, Alela Diane & Wild Divine, White Fence, Grouplove, Lucky Dragons, Takka Takka, Blondes, Janka Nabay, Holiday Shores, Eternal Summers, The Babies, Xeno and Oaklander, Houses, Teengirl Fantasy, Delicate Steve, Grooms, Slowdance, Grand Rapids, Radical Dads, Mainland, Easter Vomit, Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Sean Bones, Dream Diary, Xray Eyeballs, The Loom, Pursesnatchers, Gatekeeper, Nicholas Krgovich (No Kids), Pop. 1280, World Atlas, Dry The River, The Black Hollies, I’m Turning Into, Quiet Lights, The Secret History, Tiny Victories, Indian Rebound, Kindest Lines, Coyote Eyes, Yellow Tears, Epee du Bois, Marie Stella, Mussels, Diehard, Sensual Harassment, Wires Under Tension, Dry the River, RYAT, The Gypsy West, Dirty Dishes, Grandfather, Bangladeafy, Grass Is Green, Anasazi, The Men, Pillow Theory, Lost Tribe, A Lull, and The Brooklyn What.

RIP: John Walker, founder of The Walker Brothers

From The Guardian:

John Walker, one of the founders of the Walker Brothers, has died at the age of 67.

The songwriter, vocalist and guitarist, who played a pivotal role in the band, which scored huge commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with songs such as Make It Easy On Yourself and The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine (Any More), passed away at his Los Angeles home. He had liver cancer.

Born John Maus, he and the other two unrelated members of the group, Scott Engel and Gary Leeds, adopted the Walker Brothers name after their formation in 1964.

His spokeswoman said: “Sadly John passed away yesterday morning Californian time, after a six-month battle with liver cancer.”

The Flaming Lips to collaborate with Panda Bear… OH MY GAWD!!!

The Flaming Lips are definitely getting the hang of this here internet contraption in 2011, with Wayne Coyne and his Merry Plush Pranksters flooding the datastream in recent months with shock-and-awe announcements that make Radiohead look like amateurs. So far they’ve got a retrospective vinyl box set and a Neon Indian collaboration in the bag, a Zaireeka-esque iPhone experiment, an edible gummy skull with new songs lodged in its brain, a planned collaboration with Lightning Bolt, and a Soft Bulletin live album in the works that will be housed in another gummy skull, this one “marijuana-flavored.” (By the way: how the hell is a “marijuana-flavored” anything appealing? Marijuana tastes like dirt and sticks and worms.)

Pretty good string of announcements so far, but what many music fans have been asking is: how does this relate to either Odd Future or Animal Collective? No response yet on the former, but according to an interview with Coyne in Esquire yesterday, Panda Bear is the latest to be tapped for a Flaming Lips collab. “We’re gonna do something with Panda Bear, too,” Coyne whispered out of the side of his mouth, setting the world ablaze.

Unfortunately, no other details are available since they presumably haven’t even met up yet, so let the speculation begin. Will this group of songs also be released in a gummy skull? Will the skull be larger or smaller than previous gummy skulls? Will the gummy skull taste like marijuana, or will the collaboration just be called something like Vaporizers Have Feelings Too? Will the gummy skull fit into a pair of Keep shoes, or is that unsanitary? Keep your browser’s homepage set to Tiny Mix Tapes and all will be revealed soon enough.
