MIDI Festival announces its perfectly average-sized first wave of artists

MIDI Festival announces its perfectly average-sized first wave of artists http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/1304/news-13-04-midi-festival.jpg

Change just one letter and you’ve got MINI Festival, which could mean a festival where only two or three bands play, or a festival that only accommodates two or three fans, or a festival that shrinks all bands and all fans down to the size of leprechauns.

As far as I know though, MIDI Festival will have tons of bands and tons of fans and no one will have to play instruments the size of Lucky Charms. According to Dummy Mag, MIDI has announced its first round of artists, which includes the likes of Mykki Blanco, Mount Kimbie, King Krule, AlunaGeorge, Christopher Owens, and The Horrors.

MIDI will take place July 26-28 in Hyères, France, and tickets are available here.

Editions Mego prepares new album Gridshifter from Innode, shows blatant disregard for the balance of my bank account

I don’t want Editions Mego to ever stop. Right now, Editions Mego, listen: never stop releasing music. I also have a second, somewhat less sincere but ultimately honest plea: please, Editions Mego, slow your roll. The leather of my wallet is cracking and weak. It’s getting frayed in the place where I keep my debit card. The card itself is worn clean: it appears to be a solid white piece of plastic with a little black strip and what could be some braille. My money is tired, it needs to rest.

But no, they don’t listen. Instead they announce the debut album from Innode, a 10-track LP called Gridshifter. It picks on both my love for CoH and my love of Factory Floor, making it the most painful of double-whammy low-blows. Then I see that Innode is Stefan Németh of Radian, Steven Hess of Pan•American, and Bernhard Breuer of Elektro Guzzi and I tilt my head to one side, raise an eyebrow, and hold on to incredulity until I realize that nobody in the office actually cares what expression I’m making in my sad play for attention. Perhaps you will share my incredulity/need for attention when you hear the track “Dedispersion II” below. Perhaps you will hold that expression until the album comes out on June 10. I can’t really recommend that last bit though: facial paralysis is no fun, kiddies.

Gridshifter tracklisting:

01. Dedispersion I
02. Dedispersion II
03. Rotor
04. Planes and Numbers
05. Peano
06. Gridshifter 05
07. Triggerext
08. FS Revisited
09. Cumbre Vieja
10. Skatterakt

Avey Tare forms new project Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, with former Dirty Projectors, Ponytail members, excludes you from his entire life

You’re sitting by the phone. In fact, you’ve been sitting by the phone for hours. No one understands why – you have a cell phone. That’s the phone you’re sitting by. You just have it out on the table, next to the lamp, and you’re just staring at it. You could easily take it with you, leave the house, live your life. But no. You might miss the call. The call from Animal Collective’s Avey Tare. The call where he asks you if you want to be in his new band, Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks.

Bad news, friend. It ain’t gonna happen.

Avey Tare has already chosen his compatriots in Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks. One is Angel Deradoorian, formerly of Dirty Projectors. The other is Jeremy Hyman, former drummer for Ponytail. These are people you probably cannot compare to, unless you’re, say, Yamantaka Eye. Now that you know who’s in Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, here’s how Tare himself describes the band: “A group of three hippies on a road trip through the backwaters of 2013’s rural music scene fall prey to a murderous cannibalistic band making.” I see!

More enlightening may be the band’s forthcoming live dates, of which there are four. All dates are in June, one is in Brooklyn, the other three are in the UK. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are going on sale at noon EST on 4/12, so if you’re an America-dwelling Avey Tare fan, then you might want to sit by your computer then. Just, please, stop sitting by that phone. Put it in your pocket. Walk away.

Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks dates:

06.17.13 - Brooklyn, NY - Glasslands
06.20.13 - Brighton, UK - Green Door Store
06.21.13 - London, UK - The Lexington
06.22.13 - Camber Sands, UK - All Tomorrow’s Parties

Oh shit, All Tomorrow’s Parties are in Iceland? How the heck am I supposed to get over there by then?!?

Hello news reader!

If you finish reading this sentence about the formal announcement of All Tomorrow’s Parties Iceland (June 28 - 29, 2013 in Keflavík, Iceland) and the early bird tickets that are on sale now, can you please remember to check back in with us on or around April 16, 2013 for the complete and most assuredly comedically-delivered lineup announcement?

Thanks. —Nobodaddy

P.S. – If you need to kill time from now until then, here’s the entirety of Brian Eno’s Thursday Afternoon. It’ll get you close.

Autre Ne Veut to tour Europe, make love to you and you and you and you

What’s up, ladies of Europe? Here’s a bit of news for you: Autre Ne Veut will make love to you. He’s coming to your country, he’s coming to your city, he’s coming to play you some intense electro-pop, then he’s coming to make some intense love to you.

Then he’s going to feel overwhelmed and sit in the closet, thinking about his life. Ladies, this is a man who named his last album Anxiety (TMT Review). A lot of people have anxiety and that’s okay.

Because he’s going to make love to you again! Then probably the breakdown thing at some point. Between this cycle of making love and breaking down, he’ll play a string of dates in Europe throughout the month of April. Joining him on one of his London dates are Majical Cloudz, kindred souls in the field of emotionally intense electro-pop. They’ll probably talk about electro-pop and intensity and feelings and stuff. Then they might make love.

04.17.13 - London, UK - Electrowerkz *

Yeasayer embark on summer tour via bus or great ship

Years ago, I was reading from a book of wisdom. The wisdom, as a whole, was pretty good, but mostly non-applicable to my life. Someone was sure to get something of worth from the tidbit concerning turnips and their ability to induce fertility, it just wasn’t going to be me. Red sky at night, sailor’s delight? Red sky at night, I stay inside, because that is freaky as all hell. There was one bit of wisdom that stuck out to me, though. It spoke of the Brooklyn band Yeasayer, prophesizing that, once the calendar reached two-thousand-and-thirteen, they would travel America on a great ship.

Well, hate to break it to you, book of wisdom, but that’s hot garbage. Nobody travels by great ships anymore, you idiot! Well, I suppose it’s only half hot garbage. Though the great ship part is ridiculous, Yeasayer are touring America this summer, playing stuff from their last album on Secretly Canadian, Fragrant World (TMT Review). In fact, they’re even touring a little bit right now, in this decidedly non-summer time, for a few shows, including Coachella. After they’ve done those shows, they’ll stretch out for a month or so, before hitting the road again for a couple handfuls of summer dates. They will be traveling to those shows in a bus or a van or some other sort of transportation that’s not a great ship.

Yeasayer dates:

04.11.13 - Pomona, CA - The Glass House
04.12.13 - San Francisco, CA - Mezzanine
04.13.13 - Indio, CA - Coachella
04.20.13 - Indio, CA - Coachella
06.09.13 - New York, NY - Governors Ball
06.25.13 - Pittsburgh, PA - Mr. Smalls
06.26.13 - Columbus, OH - Bluestone
06.27.13 - St. Louis, MO - Firebird
06.28-29.13 - Kansas City, MO - Kanrocksas
06.27-30.13 - Rothbury, MI - Electric Forest Festival
07.02.13 - Toronto, ON - Phoenix
07.03.13 - Cleveland, OH - Beachland
07.05.13 - Des Moines, IA - 80/35 Festival
