Okay. Remember rapper/singer Neneh Cherry? Like 20+ years ago she had that hit song “Buffalo Stance.” It went like, “Who’s that gigolo, something, something, who’s looking good today, looking good in every way…” And then she’d call you a sucka while the DJ did some scratchin’ — okay, nevermind.

Anyway, she’s making a comeback, though an unlikely one. Cherry is teaming up with Scandinavian jazz trio The Thing to record a new LP entitled The Cherry Thing, due out on June 19 through Smalltown Supersound. The record will consist mostly of covers with songs originally by groups like Madvillain, The Stooges, Suicide, Martina Topley-Bird, Ornette Coleman, and Nene Cherry’s own jazz legend father, Don Cherry. Needless to say, the result is pretty fucking weird.

The Cherry Thing Tracklist:

01. Cashback (Neneh Cherry)

02. Dream Baby Dream (Suicide)

03. Too Tough to Die (Martina Topley-Bird)

04. Sudden Movement (Mats Gustafsson)

05. Accordion (Madvillain)

06. Golden Heart (Don Cherry)

07. Dirt (The Stooges)

08. What Reason (Ornette Coleman)
