Ought announce October tour in support of upcoming LP Sun Coming Down

TMT’s very own Pat Beane gave Montreal-based quartet Ought a rave in his feature on this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. “Ought delivered one of the best festival sets I’ve seen,” and on top of that, “the band was cute as hell.” Hot on the heels of that affirmative press, Ought have announced a substantial October tour throughout the US and Canada. The stint will coincide with the September 18 release of their sophomore album Sun Coming Down on Constellation. You can pre-order through the Constellation site or through iTunes.

Tim Darcy, Matt May, Tim Keen, and Ben Stidworthy, the Ought men, are not from Canada, so get that out of your head or risk serious critical misreading. Rather, the four hail from New Hampshire, New Jersey, Australia, and Portland, respectively, having convened at Montreal’s McGill University. Their first album, last year’s More Than Any Other Day, was a smashing critical success, noted for its danceable arrangements, playful interpretation of post-punk stylings, and Darcy’s sarcastic, audaciously lovable lyrics recognizing the potential awesomeness of trivial, everyday experience. For the chorus of “Beautiful Blue Sky,” Sun Coming Down’s first single, he incants phrases like “Fancy seeing you here,” “How’s the family,” and “Beautiful weather today” over a grand, ascending guitar progression. It’s pretty great.

“Men For Miles,” the album’s second single, is out now, too. You can listen to both below, followed by the album tracklist and the full tour schedule.
