Peaking Lights announce new baby Lucifer and swaddle it in a mixtape; up for adoption June 18

Lucifer is coming! And sooner than the 12/21/12 date the Mayans scheduled for us! That’s because this Lucifer, set to arrive June 18 from Mexican Summer in the US and Domino sub-label Weird World internationally, is the newest gift to our ears from husband-wife duo Peaking Lights, following up last year’s smash hit 936 (TMT Review). Lucifer was recorded after the couple (Aaron Doyes and Indra Dunis) discovered a new “guiding light muse for the album”… and it was hiding in Indra’s womb the whole time!

Yes, the inspiration for Lucifer is the by-product of Doyes and Indra’s consensual marital intercoursing. Thankfully, they’re going with a back story for the name that differs a bit from the popular notion that associates Lucifer with the big red guy that lives underground. The press release for the album announcement quotes the band as saying, “All of our record titles have come to us in dreams, daydreams and epiphanies. Lucifer sat so strong with us. It means ‘Venus, bearer of light’ and is the first sign of the sunrise. There are some major astrological and astronomical events involving Venus in this year of 2012.”

Interested in hearing what the album might sound like? Well, Peaking Lights, in conjunction with the album announcement, have released Lucifer Mixtape 1, the first in a series of streaming mixes that contains snippets from the album (and is a damn fine listen). Al Carson (Yeasayser, Onehotrix Point Never) helped produce the upcoming album, and based on what you hear in the mixtape teaser, we’re all going to be in for a devilishly good treat.
